RETAIL & RESTAURANT OPPORTUNITIES
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established in 1991. The DDA is organized under P.A. 197, of 1975 and includes a corresponding tax capture district. The purpose of the DDA is to revitalize and prevent deterioration of the central business district; to encourage historic preservation; to authorize the acquisition and disposal of interests in real and personal property; to seek out and attract new business interests; to authorize the creation and implementation of redevelopment plans in the district; to promote economic growth of the district and implement programs to eliminate the further decline of properties and their values in the district.
The district currently supports downtown beautification efforts and downtown events and programming. A map of the current DDA district boundaries is available here.

In 2018 the City of Durand completed a Downtown Economic Development Study that identified opportunities for commercial development in our downtown district. The study sites a high demand for movies/entertainment venues and specialty foods. Moderate demand and spending leakage also suggest that specialty and general merchandise retail would be welcome in the downtown district.
